Dragonfly Environmental are specialists in restoring and re-creating degraded or lost ecosystems, particularly wetlands. We’re also highly experienced in translocating plants and other elements from an ecosystem that would otherwise be destroyed or degraded (such as through development) to a new location where they can continue to thrive, as well as constructing ecosystems from scratch.
Services include:
- Design and approvals
- Project management including implementing conditions of consent and all on-ground works
- Supply of materials – plants, mulch, soil, fencing, irrigation and signage
- Planting and on-ground works
- Maintenance
- Habitat retention and re-creation
Some of our key ecological restoration projects include:
- Penrhyn Estuary – translocation of 1500 square metres of the endangered ecological community salt marsh within Botany Bay from an area slated for development of a new port to a new site where it could continue to grow.
- Coolibah Reserve – rebuilding and planting the banks of Coolibah wetland, Rockdale, to transform it from a silted up lifeless pond to a thriving wetland, for which we received a commendation from the funding body (Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority).
- Cooks Park – works involved planting 100,000 plants and carrying out erosion control works to re-establish and stabilise a coastal dune system in Cooks Park, Kyeemagh.
- Victorian Desalination Plant Saltmarsh Restoration – translocation of saltmarsh and propogation and installation of 30,000 saltmarsh and wetland plants to compensate for losses resulting from desalination plant construction at Woolshed Creek, Victoria.
